In this reconversion of a kitchen and its surrounding circulation, Frederic’s in-depth exploration of materials to create unique solutions becomes apparent. In close collaboration with his trusted craftsmen, specialist finishes were tested and honed to the desired effect.
‘I went on the search for colours and materials to complement the neutral base in white, grey and black. The finish of the brown-grey storage units was an experiment with a thick larch veneer, bonded onto green MDF. By inserting long vertical grooves in the wood, subtle hints of the green substructure got revealed. In addition, I chose a lively grey-green natural stone worktop and mint-green lacquer as a graphic touch to some of the framed vertical and horizontal surfaces.’
